Important Update: The TPO Ban on Nail Products

The ban on Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide (TPO), a common ingredient in some UV-cured nail products.

What TPO Does and Why It’s Banned

TPO is known as a photoinitiator, which is a substance that absorbs light. In nail products, its main purpose was to help gel polishes cure, or harden, under UV or LED lamps. This process gave the polish great colour stability and a solid finish.

The European Union has now prohibited the use of TPO in all cosmetic products, including nail gels and polishes. Officials took this action due to safety concerns regarding TPO’s potential toxicity. Therefore, studies have suggested a link between the chemical and potential long-term fertility damage.

The most important point is that this ban is now in effect across all EU member states, including Ireland.

This means that all production, trading, and use of products containing TPO must be discontinued without delay. This applies to everyone, from distributors to nail technicians; you can no longer use these products, even if you bought them before the ban took effect.

For your safety and the safety of your clients, we strongly advise that you discontinue the use of any product containing TPO immediately.
