.What is root regrowth?

Clients with coloured hair will need a colour refresher post-lockdown, be their stylist with a plan! There’s likely to

be a lot of appointments for services like this.

What does the root regrowth touch-up process look like?

As a professional stylist, you are probably no stranger to touching up root regrowth, but that doesn’t mean brushing up on the latest trends won’t benefit you or your clients! L’Oréal Professionnel’s Majirel range has every shade needed to conceal roots of any colour. Majirel’s range is ideal for root regrowth because it is composed of permanent, true-to-tone colours that are enriched with Ionène G and Incell to strengthen, protect and maintain the integrity of the hair. This year’s top Majirel colour essentials are tones like Majirel Cool Cover 6 and Majirel High Lift Ash, so for this look, Majirel Cool Inforced will be the focus.

How to mix: Majirel Cool Inforced should be mixed in a 1 to 1.5 ratio, i.e. 50ml (one tube) of Majirel Cool Inforced plus 75ml of L’Oréal Professionnel Cream Oxydant. For the roots, mix Cool Inforced in this ratio. Mix until a rich, creamy texture is created.

Application: Application is vital for a proper touch-up, to achieve soft demarcation you can use Majirel Glow, so you don’t see the harsh lines when roots start to grow. Divide hair into appropriate sections and apply the Majirel Cool mixture with a brush to the root regrowth, taking care not to apply to the already-coloured hair. Let the mixture develop for 35 minutes before rinsing.

  1. Boost your balayage game to boost your business

Recent insights have shown that 71% of clients prefer a more natural-looking hair colour. Using the balayage method, you can create a subtle, on-trend look for clients that is wearable all year round.

What is balayage?

The term balayage comes from the French word “to sweep”. This is probably the most popular technique of the decade, replacing the chunky highlighting method. Every colourist is familiar with this service and the endless, subtle, sun-kissed looks it can be used to create.

What does a balayage service consist of? post3

A beautifully blended balayage is created using L’Oréal Professionnel’s ‘Perfect Pair’: DIA Light and Blond Studio. The ‘Perfect Pair’ does the work of toning and lightening hair for a bespoke balayage that leaves your clients happy and rebooking for other quick services (like root touch-ups!). Use this winning duo in two simple steps:

Lightening: To create the balayage look, you will first need to lift the client’s hair colour – use Blond Studio as your go-to lightening range to create any blonde look. Here’s the pre-lightening essential formula: To lighten, mix 30g Blond Studio Multi-Techniques Bonder Inside, plus 30ml Vol. Let this mixture develop for up to 50 minutes.

Toning: The key to proper toning is all about familiarity with the colour wheel – to neutralise unwanted orange tones, you should use blue, the opposite of orange on the colour wheel. For harsh yellow tones, the opposite end would be purple. Master the colour wheel and stock up on the best toning products, such as the DIA Light range, and you will master the art of toning hair colour. The second half of the dynamic duo requires this formula: To tone, mix one 50ml tube of DIA Light 10.02 and 75ml of 9 Vol. DIA Activateur. Tone with this combo for up to 20 minutes.

  1. Fast foils to create beautiful babylights

Low maintenance hair colour was big in 2020, and it’s only going to become more popular in the coming year. Babylights can be used to create a lowkey, low maintenance look that clients will be craving after lockdown and all through 2021.

What are babylights?

Babylights are delicate, white-blonde highlights created using a very fine colour technique – the end-look should appear as if hair was naturally lightened in the sun. One of the main advantages of the babylights technique is that it can be applied to any hair colour and any length (long or short). This method is also a great way to introduce colour to clients that fancy a change in their look but don’t want anything too drastic. Babylights are very natural, subtle, and they are very easy to maintain.

How are babylights achieved?post4

Babylights are created in a similar manner to balayage, the main difference is that with babylights, foils are used. For babylights, the hair will still need to be lightened and toned. The best lightener for this service? Blond Studio Multi-Techniques Bonder Inside is a must-have lightening powder in 2021. Blond Studio Multi-techniques 8 bonder Inside is a lightening powder that will achieve up to 8 levels of lift, with the added benefit of a built-in bonding additive. The product is formulated with citric acid and glycine to maintain the integrity of the hair during the lightening process.

Lightening: To lighten, mix ½ tube of lightening cream and one Majimèches cream sachet, plus 25 ml 30 Vol Oxydant. Let the mixture develop for up to 35 minutes before rinsing.

Toning: As with all toning, keep in mind the colour wheel to give your clients a bespoke service. To tone, mix one 50ml tube of DIA Light 7.01, plus 75ml 9 Vol. DIA Activateur and one 50ml tube of DIA Light 8.21, plus 75ml 9 Vol. DIA Activateur. If your client has sensitised hair, then the 6 Vol. Dia Activateur may be more suitable to use.
